The Battle of Vicksburg

The battle of Vicksburg was also known as the siege of Vicksburg. The commanding general for the Union was Ulysses S. Grant. Major general John Pemberton was the Confederacy's commanding general at Vicksburg. Pemberton was also a turncoat(turncoat means a traitor). He used to be a Union officer but turned to the Confederacy because he had lower rank then some other Union officers. Anyway, the Union and the Confederacy fought each other all day July 4, 1863. However, in the end, the Confederacy lost the battle and was forced to surrender Vicksburg. What could be better for the Union. Well, that same day, the Confederacy had also surrendered at Gettysburg. Even though there would be 2 more years of the bloody American Civil War, the Union army was on the right trail and was closer to winning the war.

Warfare is a fascinating subject. Despite the dubious morality of using violence to achieve personal or political aims. It remains that conflict has been used to do just that throughout recorded history.

Your article is very well done, a good read.
