Confederate Commanding General Robert E. Lee

This is a man named Robert E. Lee. He was the Confederacy's commanding general during the Civil War. He was well-respected and just as good a general as general Grant. However, on the same day that general Grant was commanding some of the Union army at the battle of Vicksburg in Mississippi, general Lee was commanding some of the Confederate army at the battle of Gettysburg in Pennsylvania. Unfortunatly for general Lee and the Confederate army, as general Grant's Union troops where celebrating their victory over the Confederacy at Vicksburg, he and his Confederate troops where running for their lives after their great defeat at Gettysburg. Like a lot of northerners, general Lee HATED slavery. He joined the Confederate army though because he wanted to fight for his home state, which was Virginia, a Confederate state. Many other Confederate soldiers joined the Confederate army for the same purpose or a similar purpose. Many of them wanted to fight for their home states and the south, not for slavery. Plus, 90% of Confederate soldiers did not own any slaves at all. Only 10% of Confederate soldiers owned slaves and most of them who did only owned about 1 or 2 slaves.
