The Long Conflict

The American Civil War lasted 5 bloody years. It was from 1861 to 1865 and was the absolute deadliest war in American history. But first, here's some facts on how the Civil War started. The long argument about slavery started in the 1830's. The constitution clearly stated that no slaves could be imported from Africa. But, the southern states had a lot of plantations and needed slaves to work in the fields. Eventually, the southern states started to import more and more slaves from Africa to work on plantations. When the northern states tried to stop the southern states from importing slaves, the southern states responded by seceeding from the United States of America and forming their own country known as the Confederate States of America.
